Aluminum Industrial Park in Bengo Province Commences Operations

Bengo: The Huatong Angola Aluminum Industrial Park has officially begun operations with the launch of the first phase of the Barra do Dande development project in Bengo province. This significant milestone marks the commencement of a project that is anticipated to make substantial contributions to the nation's economic and industrial sectors. According to Angola Press News Agency, the first phase of the project involves a $250 million investment and is projected to produce 120,000 tons of Electrolytic Aluminum annually. This production is expected to generate approximately $300 million in annual revenue. The company focuses on manufacturing products for various industries, including electricity, energy, metallurgy, civil construction, aerospace, petrochemical, and transport, with 90 percent of its production earmarked for export. The investment has resulted in the creation of a thousand jobs, primarily for young Angolans. Among the newly employed is Manuel Nguelesse, a metallurgical engineering graduate. Ng uelesse is one of 20 Angolan engineers who received training in China to operate the new equipment. He expressed his satisfaction, stating, "I feel fulfilled, in part, because I am working in the area in which I graduated and now I intend to contribute with my knowledge." Rosa Coelho, the municipal administrator of Barra do Dande, emphasized the broader impacts of the factory, highlighting the benefits it will bring to the socioeconomic and sustainable development of the community. The industrial park is valued at $1.6 billion and is planned to be developed in five phases over six years, ultimately generating a total of 12,000 jobs. The upcoming second phase, scheduled for completion in 2027, will require a $500 million investment. It is expected to create an additional three thousand jobs and increase production to 240,000 tons of Electrolytic Aluminum and 150,000 tons of Anodic Carbon annually.
