“The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis has managed to demonstrate seriousness and hold a firm line when addressing all crises. This has also become apparent on the issue of energy, both from the direct measures of support for households and businesses the government has taken, as well as from the reduction of taxes”.

This was emphasized by Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, speaking today on “Proto Programma” radio station’s show “Se Rythmous Epikairotitas ” with journalist, Alfonso Vitalis, in relation to the Prime Minister’s interview.

Asked about the latest developments in Greek-Turkish relations and Erdogan’s statements, Mr. Varvitsiotis noted that “our country was, is and will be committed to the process of dialogue. “Regardless of the seriousness and intensity of our differences, we believe that they should be resolved in the context of dialogue and not by military means, on the ground.” He made it clear though that “for the sake of dialogue we will not give in to whatever the other side says”. The Alternate Minister added that “this is a period when our differences with Turkey would be difficult to end up in armed conflicts”, referring to the Prime Minister’s assessment in his interview that due to the economic situation in Turkey, such aggressive action, would be a major blow to the Turkish economy. “It’s not something we expect, but we are preparing ourselves,” Mr. Varvitsiotis said. He also added that Greece has proceeded with a very large armament program, which upgrades the operational capabilities at sea and in the air and clearly shows that Greece is determined to prevent Turkish provocation and play the role it deserves in the Southeastern Mediterranean.
