“We need more Europe to address the major challenges of the future!”, was the message sent by Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, addressing the inaugural Plenary of the Conference on the Future of Europe, held via video conference in Strasbourg. “In dealing with this crisis, we have applied one principle, the principle that we need more Europe,” he underscored, adding that “in any crisis, solutions can no longer be sought at national level but only at European level”.
“This is the path we should follow in the future to gain the trust of our citizens,” the Alternate Minister pointed out, adding that “we need more Europe” regarding, inter alia, the management of the migration issue, our external relations, EU enlargement in the Western Balkans, our common currency, the Rule of Law, as well as “Social Europe”.
At the same time, Mr. Varvitsiotis stressed that in Greece “we are ready to organize a Conference with strong participation of the Regions, Universities, young people and the whole society”, pointing to the cooperation of our country with the European institutions for the mobilization of citizens to the greatest possible extent.
