Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis received the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea Jang Sung Min in Athens today. The discussion focused on bilateral relations as well as on regional and global security challenges.
In particular, Mr. Varvitsiotis emphasised that the two countries share common values for global peace, stability and security, and that they are coordinating their efforts to enhance their cooperation in areas of mutual interest. “We have had diplomatic relations for over 60 years, and we will continue to cooperate on the basis of democratic principles and International Law,” he stated.
Furthermore, the Alternate Minister underscored the advanced relations between the two countries in the fields of shipping and shipbuilding. He added that there is scope for the two countries to strengthen their economic and trade relations, as well as their tourism and cultural ties.
Security challenges in the current changing global environment were also discussed, with particular emphasis placed on the war in Ukraine. In this regard, Mr. Varvitsiotis noted that Europe needs to strengthen its voice in geopolitical issues.
For his part, Mr. Jang Sung Min praised Greece’s contribution to global Culture, History, and Democracy.
