“Turkey has long been in a state of irritation after Greece’s decision to shield itself against the Turkish threat,” Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis stressed, in an interview on “Parapolitika 90.1” radio’s ‘Bra de Fer’ talk show, with journalists Christina Korai and Dimitris Takis.
In particular, as he said, this became evident at the meeting of Turkish President Erdoğan with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, while he estimated that the Turkish President returned ‘empty handed’ after his meeting with US President Joe Biden. He added that every time Turkey is under internal pressure, it exports pressure on the Greek-Turkish relations, adding that Greece is prepared for all eventualities.
Referring to his recent visit to Cyprus, the Alternate Minister stressed that “there is a very high level of cooperation between the Greek and Cypriot leadership in dealing with all these threats.”
Asked about the resignation of Zoran Zaev, Mr. Varvitsiotis noted that a possible change of attitude of the neighbouring country will create problems in North Macedonia itself regarding its European course.
Earlier, in an interview on “Proto Programma” radio and journalist Christos Michailidis on the issue of the energy crisis, the Alternate Minister said that Greece puts on the agenda the supply of electricity and gas from the countries of the Middle East and the Southeast Mediterranean. “It is important for Greece to be the country through which the energy produced in Egypt will reach Europe. It is important for us to become a hub for the transport of energy,” he said.
