“The European Union has made it clear that any provocative conduct in the Occupied Area of Cyprus cannot be accepted,” stressed Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis in an interview on PARAPOLITIKA 90.1 radio station with journalists Christina Korai and Dimitris Takis.
In particular, Mr. Varvitsiotis, on the occasion of today’s sad anniversary of the Turkish invasion and when asked about the Turkish position for two separate states in Cyprus, noted that “Such a thing cannot be accepted by us, as it cannot be accepted by the European Union either. The conclusions of the European Council in this direction are clear”. He added that “we also support the UN Security Council resolutions for a bi-communal bi-zonal federation”.
Finally, the Alternate Minister clearly reiterated the European position that any escalation of tensions in the south-eastern Mediterranean from the Turkish side will be met, among other things, with sanctions.
