“We have managed to turn Greek-Turkish issues into European-Turkish ones”, said Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis in an interview on PARAPOLITIKA 90.1 radio station with journalist Panagiotis Tzenos. As he pointed out, one should not be surprised that senior European officials are now expressing clear positions on the Cyprus issue, as “a result of the decisions taken by the European Council”.
In particular, when asked about the upcoming celebrations marking the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the position of the Greek side, Mr. Varvitsiotis noted that he raised the issue with the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu two days ago on the sidelines of a conference in Lithuania.
Referring to the issue of vaccination and the increase in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, as well as the effects on tourism, the Alternate Minister stressed that “if we want to continue to project the image of a safe country, all Greeks must contribute to the building of a wall of immunity”.
