Ouagadougou: The Embassy of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Burkina Faso commemorated the 70th anniversary of the country’s historic struggle for liberation and national sovereignty against French colonizers. This significant event was marked by a ceremony held at the residence of the Algerian ambassador, Selma Monsouni, in Ouagadougou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Ambassador Monsouni expressed gratitude to attendees for joining the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Algeria’s November 1, 1954, revolution. She emphasized the importance of this date in Algerian history as a symbol of dignity and resistance, affirming Algerians’ inalienable right to freedom. The ambassador highlighted that the struggle set the foundation for an independent Algeria with the power to determine its own future.
Ambassador Monsouni reflected on the legacy of the liberation struggle as a source of pride and inspiration for Algeria, motivating the nation to uphold universal values of freedom and respec
t for peoples’ rights. She conveyed that under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership, Algeria aims to exemplify justice, transparency, and inclusive development. Acknowledging regional and international challenges, she noted Algeria’s efforts to foster cooperative synergy to enhance collaboration at various levels.
Highlighting Algerian-Burkinabe relations, the ambassador described them as a testament to mutual respect and trust, united in a shared objective to liberate the continent from external control. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister Delegate for Regional Cooperation, Ms. Bêbgnasgnan Stella Eldine Kabré/Kaboré, who emphasized the symbolic friendship and cooperation between Burkina Faso and Algeria.
Ms. Kabré praised Algeria’s successful armed struggle against colonization, hailing it as a global example of fighting for sovereignty and dignity. She acknowledged Burkina Faso’s commitment to combating terrorism and imperialism under its leadership. Furthermore, she noted Algeria’s cont
ributions in Burkina’s education and vocational training sectors, underscoring the longstanding cooperation between the two nations since 1978.
