A mother and her two children were killed on Thursday when the militant group Al-Shabaab detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in their home in the town of Eel-Kahelay, Somalia.

The town was liberated by the Somali government forces on Wednesday after a fierce battle with the insurgents, who fled the area and planted land mines in some of the houses.

The IED explosion, which claimed the lives of three innocent civilians, occurred today within a residential area. The fleeing Al-Shabaab terrorists had concealed deadly land mines in a civilian home, setting a sinister trap that would later unleash devastation upon the family. The victims have been identified as a mother and her two children, who tragically lost their lives in the blast.

The explosion occurred around noon, when the family returned to their home after spending the night in a nearby camp for displaced people. The blast also injured two other civilians, who were rescued by the national army and taken to a hospital.

The Somali government has condemned the attack as a cowardly act of terror and vowed to continue its offensive against the militants until they are eliminated. The government has also urged the residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious objects or activities to the security forces.
