Airstrike on Gaza City School Results in Five Palestinian Deaths

Gaza City, Gaza Strip—An Israeli airstrike targeted the Shuhada’ al-Zaytun school in the Al-Zaytun neighborhood of Gaza City, which was housing displaced individuals, resulting in the deaths of at least five Palestinians.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Palestinian and Israeli sources confirmed the attack on Saturday. Palestinian security sources reported that the school, currently used as a shelter, was hit by Israeli warplanes. Medical personnel indicated that the strike resulted in casualties including women and children, with several others injured and transported to local hospitals.

The Israeli military stated that the operation was a precise, intelligence-guided strike on what it described as a “command and control complex” at the site of the former school. The military’s statement clarified that the complex was being used by Hamas operatives to plan and conduct operations against Israel.

This airstrike is part of a broader Israeli offensive against Hamas that began after an incursion by the group into southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which left approximately 1,200 people dead and 250 others taken hostage.

As of Saturday, Gaza-based health authorities have reported that the Palestinian death toll from ongoing attacks in the Gaza Strip has reached 41,182.
