AICB Distributes Over 1,000 Plants in Reforestation Campaign in Balé

BOROMO — The Association of Convergent Initiatives for the Balé (AICB) has launched a reforestation campaign, distributing over 1,000 plants to local organizations and students in Boromo on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event is part of the AICB’s “Reforestation and Environmental Education” project under its “Action for the Future” program. The campaign was marked by the planting of 50 trees along a hedge in sector 4 of Boromo, near the road to Signonghin village, in the presence of local authorities, environmental stakeholders, and a delegation from AICB led by its president, Arouna Ivo.

In addition to the tree planting, the AICB distributed 1,000 plants to the Provincial Youth Council, 300 plants to local associations, and 100 plants to the provincial directorate of preschool and primary education in Balé. The initiative also included awareness-raising activities and a demonstration of proper tree planting techniques conducted by the provincial environment directorate.

The reforestation campaign aims to promote environmental protection and sustainable development in the Balé province, which faces significant challenges from demographic pressure and gold panning. Arouna Ivo emphasized the importance of involving young people in these efforts to foster a culture of environmental stewardship in future generations.

Asseta Kouanda, the Secretary General of the province, praised the AICB’s initiative, noting that it addresses critical environmental issues identified in the region. She highlighted the importance of sustainable development and resilience against climate change as key goals of the reforestation effort.

The event was also supported by local authorities and technical services, with organizers implementing a monitoring system to ensure the success of the planted trees.
