AIB Outlines Strategic Directions at Regional Consultation in Koulse

Koulse: On the sidelines of the second ordinary session of the Regional Consultation Framework (CCR), the Director General of the Burkina Information Agency (AIB), Seraphine Some/Millogo, presented a communication on the activities of her structure to development actors on Thursday. The presentation focused on the agency's history, establishment as a State Public Establishment of an Administrative Nature (EPA), information collection and processing, productions and publications, and resources.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Ms. Some detailed that AIB, created in 1964, was designated as an EPA in August 2024. It possesses legal personality and financial autonomy, operating under the technical supervision of the Ministry in charge of Communication and the financial supervision of the Ministry in charge of Finance. The agency's mission includes providing reliable and objective information, defending national interests, and protecting the sovereignty of Burkina Faso.

The AIB boasts the largest network of correspondents in Burkina Faso, aiding in its mission to gather and process information and provide media coverage. The Director General noted that the agency has produced nearly 5,000 dispatches annually, surpassing its target of 3,000, with over 200 focused on the Koulse region alone. Education and training emerged as the most frequent topics in the Koulse region, followed by civic engagement, environment, and agriculture.

Financially, AIB's resources come from subscriptions, media coverage, advertising, advertorials, and individual sales. The services it offers to ministries and institutions are to be governed by a performance contract signed with the State. Ms. Some urged partners and users to prioritize AIB for information access and provide necessary resources to maintain its role as a credible information wholesaler for the Burkinabe people.
