AIB Marks 60 Years: Celebrating a Legacy of Information and Dedication


OUAGADOUGOU — The Burkina Information Agency (AIB) celebrated its 60th anniversary this Monday, recognizing the efforts of its workforce and the dedication of its audience. The agency, established by law on May 27, 1964, has been a cornerstone in Burkina Faso’s media landscape, delivering news through a vast network of correspondents.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the General Director of Editions Sidwaya, the anniversary was an occasion to honor both current workers and past directors who have shaped the AIB. Noufo Enok Kindo, Secretary General of Editions Sidwaya, emphasized the AIB’s role as a crucial and reliable source within the national media sphere, noting its function as an essential provider for other media outlets.



The Director of AIB, Aimé Mouorissing Kambiré, expressed a hopeful outlook for the resolution of the ongoing security crisis, which he believes will enable the agency to expand further regionally. Kambiré outlined plans for increased networking across Burkina Faso, especially in municipal capitals, and for enhancing the agency’s services through advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence.



Editor-in-Chief Tilado Apollinaire Abga called on national authorities to ensure the AIB is equipped to remain the leading news agency in West Africa. Abga highlighted Burkina Faso’s strategic position in the region and the agency’s role in reinforcing national sovereignty, especially against the backdrop of challenges posed by terrorist groups using sophisticated communication strategies.



In concluding remarks, Abga reminded attendees of the founding vision for the AIB, which paralleled the creation of the nation’s army, underscoring the agency’s foundational role in asserting Burkina Faso’s sovereignty post-independence. The AIB’s influence remains crucial as it continues to navigate through complex security and informational landscapes.
