AIB Correspondent Named Ambassador of Peace by Federation for Universal Peace

Kaya, Dec 2, 2023 (AIB) – The Federation for Universal Peace honored seventy individuals, including AIB correspondent Augustin Irwaya Ouédraogo, as “Ambassadors of Peace” in Kaya on Saturday for their efforts in fostering peace and social cohesion in the Center-North region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Augustin Irwaya Ouédraogo, serving as a correspondent in the Sanmatenga province, received this title along with 69 other notable figures. The recognition was for his commitment to promoting universal moral values, strong family bonds, interreligious cooperation, and harmony between nations.

Ouédraogo’s distinction was notably attributed to his work with the “Voisins solidaires du Centre-Nord” association, which he founded in 2020. This organization prioritizes peace in the community and addresses family conflicts, neighborhood disputes, and issues at water points, exacerbated by the regional humanitarian crisis.

He explained, “The idea to form this association came when we observed peace deteriorating due to family conflicts and other issues. Our goal was to unite people sharing our vision to strengthen family ties and neighborly relations.” The association works on neighborly solidarity to restore peace, with community facilitators resolving family and marital disputes, as well as conflicts between parents and children.

Ouédraogo expressed his gratitude towards the Federation for Universal Peace and acknowledged the honor as both a call for continued dedication and a responsibility, emphasizing his commitment to peace efforts wherever needed.

Two other journalists and local media leaders were also recognized as peace ambassadors: Madi Ouédraogo, founder of the online media “KAYAINFO”, and Abdoulaye Ouédraogo, editor of the Moore language newspaper “Bangr-Nooma”. Both pledged to use their media platforms to promote social cohesion and peace in Burkina Faso.
