WINDHOEK – The African Stars clinched the 2024 PstBet Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup with a 2-1 victory over the Young Brazilians at Independence Stadium this Saturday. This victory not only adds to their season’s successes, including the Debmarine Namibia Premiership title but also marks their sixth NFA Cup win, setting a record in the tournament’s history.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the game began with African Stars taking the lead in the 25th minute through a penalty by Willy Stephanus. Despite heavy pressure from the Young Brazilians, the first half concluded with the Stars ahead by one goal. The match intensified in the second half as the Young Brazilians, hailing from Karasburg, leveled the score through Quinton van Staden, leading the game into extra time.
During the additional period, despite continuous attacks from the Young Brazilians, African Stars capitalized on a defensive gap, winning a crucial free kick just outside the 25-meter box. Stephanus, renowned for his free-kick ability, secured the lead once again for the Stars, culminating in their ultimate victory after 120 minutes of play.
In the third-place playoff, Khomas NamPol edged out Eeshoke Chula Chula 3-2 in what was described as one of the day’s most thrilling matches. The victorious African Stars team took home N.dollars 500,000, while the runners-up Young Brazilians received N.dollars 250,000. The third and fourth-placed teams, Khomas NamPol and Chula Chula, were awarded N.dollars 100,000 and N.dollars 50,000, respectively.
