Leraba: The Secretary General of the Leraba Province, Yeonviel Some, representing the Governor of the Tannounyan Region, presided over the launch of the commemorative ceremony for African Languages Week combined with the International Mother Language Day, 2026 edition, in Sindou. The event, themed "Sustainable Water, Shared Voices: African Languages as a Safe Water and Sanitation Channel for the Africa We Want," kicked off on Friday, May 8, 2026.
According to Burkina Information Agency, these celebrations aim to strengthen national unity while respecting the cultural diversity of Burkina Faso. The minister's message highlighted the importance of these events in promoting understanding and cooperation.
Dr. Anselme Dari Dah, the regional director in charge of preschool education, explained the decision to concentrate activities into a single day and relocate them to Leraba, reflecting the current context in the Tannounyan region. The events featured participation from military, paramilitary, customary and religious authorities, teachers, and learners, who engaged in various activities including the solemn raising of the national colors.
Students sang the Ditanye in the national language Dioula, participated in language quizzes, and visited exhibition stands. A public conference on the theme served as the official launch framework, engaging participants in discussions on African proverbs, oral traditions, and cultural narratives and their roles in promoting water conservation and sanitation responsibility.
