African Defense Ministers Gather in Addis Ababa to Discuss Regional Security

Addis Ababa: The inaugural African Defense Ministers’ Conference opened today at the Adwa Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa, focusing on enhancing regional peace and security.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the three-day event, themed “Africa: United in Peace, Strong in Security,” aims to foster discussions on strengthening partnerships to combat terrorism and address both global and regional security threats. The conference will also outline directions for future cooperation among African nations.

Over the course of the event, participants will engage in presentations on the existing world order and its impacts on Africa. Panel discussions will delve into contemporary security challenges facing the continent, providing a platform for sharing insights and proposing solutions.

The conference has attracted a wide array of participants, including African defense ministers, representatives from regional organizations, senior military officers, military attachés based in Addis Ababa, and researchers specializ
ing in military affairs.

Prominent attendees include Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, Defence Minister Aisha Mohamed, and former Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, along with other senior government officials.

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Defense highlighted the conference’s role in facilitating collective consultation and devising solutions to tackle the continent’s pressing challenges. By hosting this event, Ethiopia aims to spearhead discussions and collaborations that strengthen the continent’s defense capabilities and overall security architecture.
