ADDIS ABABA—The African Boxing Confederation officially opened its headquarters in Addis Ababa today, signaling a new era for boxing on the continent. The inauguration ceremony was attended by key figures in sports and government, including Culture and Sports Minister Shewit Shanka.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the establishment of the African Boxing Confederation’s headquarters in Ethiopia is expected to enhance sports diplomacy and contribute to the development of boxing both locally and continentally. The minister highlighted the potential of boxing to engage youth, revive the sport within Ethiopia, and aid in the country’s broader development goals by leveraging its economic, social, and political impacts.
African Boxing Confederation President Eyasu Wosen expressed optimism about the new headquarters’ role in promoting boxing, boosting tourism, and attracting investment to Ethiopia. He also noted the Confederation’s commitment to supporting the sport across Africa by engaging sponsors and organizing major events.
Coinciding with the headquarters’ opening, an international boxing championship is set to be held today at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, showcasing the sport’s growing prominence in the region.
