Kianyaga: The Sh.270 million Gichugu Affordable Housing project in Kianyaga, Kirinyaga County is now complete and ready for occupation. The 110 units’ project that was launched by the President in August 2022 comprises 40 two-bedroom units, 40 one-bedroom units, and 30 studio apartments, all available for purchase through the Tenant Purchase Scheme (TPS).
According to Kenya News Agency, the project has not only transformed the skyline of Kianyaga town but also increased investment as it will provide decent homes and modern living spaces to residents working in local authorities, schools, hospitals, and business sectors. During the construction phase, 160 individuals had the opportunity to work for two years, enabling them to acquire skills for future workmanship in public and private projects.
Additionally, the project created more indirect jobs off-site such as eatery joints and in the sources of raw materials. Welding businesses, hardware shops, and transport services attracted new investors keen on tapping new business ventures around the housing projects. The project is strategically located near the Deputy County Commissioner’s office and Kianyaga Police Station within the town, making it accessible and more secure.
Meanwhile, during a recent visit by the National Government Coordination Secretariat (NGCS), a technical coordination arm of the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary in Kenya, the team commended the workmanship of the project, thanking the contractor for timely delivery.
