Rabat: Burkina Faso’s Stallions were defeated 1-0 by Algeria’s Fennecs on Sunday at the Prince Moulaye Hassane Stadium in Rabat, in the second round of Group E matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Stallions were caught off guard by an early penalty converted by Fennecs captain Riyad Mahrez in the 23rd minute. After the goal, the Burkinabe team laid siege to the Algerian goal but were unable to equalize.
Despite this defeat, Burkina Faso (3 points, +0 goal difference) remains in second place in Group E behind Algeria (6 points, +4 goal difference). Sudan (3 points, -2 goal difference), having secured a 1-0 victory against Equatorial Guinea, sits in third place and will face Burkina Faso on December 31st in Casablanca for the third matchday of Group E. At the same time, Algeria will play Equatorial Guinea.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco will be held from December 21st, 2025 to January 18th, 2026.
