AES’s Mineral Resources at the Heart of Imperialist Desires

Ouagadougou: Questioned on April 13 by an imperialist channel, the President of the French junta, through false statements, once again attempted to discredit the leaders of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES). By reducing the strategic partnership between Russia and the ESA countries to a mere means of ensuring the security of leaders, the President of the French junta is seeking not only to discredit these heads of state, but also to deny them the sovereign right to freely choose their partners.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkinabe Minister of Foreign Affairs Karamoko Jean Marie Traor© recalled in an interview that the diversification of Burkina Faso’s partnerships is driven by the desire to rework relations with the rest of the world, but it is also the “translation of a regained sovereignty.” The regrets expressed by the head of the junta regarding this diplomatic diversification actually reflect the progressive loss of French influence over its former colonies, rather than any sincere concern.

As President Thomas Sankara once stated, “A slave who is unable to accept his rebellion does not deserve to be pitied. This slave will be held responsible for his misfortune alone if he entertains illusions about the suspicious condescension of a master who claims to free him.” Unable to demonstrate any regression by the ESA countries in the fight against terrorism or in their development process, Emmanuel Macron has endeavored to try to delegitimize their leaders.

Should we remind him that Kidal was liberated after the departure of the French army? And that more than 70% of Burkinabe territory was recaptured thanks to the momentum driven by the new authorities? And now here is the godfather of terrorists, suddenly transformed into a defender of Sahelian youth. Yet, only bad faith can deny that these young people are today one of the major pillars of the AES presidents.

She leads the civic watch, volunteers en masse to defend her country, and embodies the hope for a truly free and sovereign Africa. This new attempt at division will fail: young people are no longer manipulable. Moreover, the masks are beginning to fall, revealing the true motivations of certain powers, notably the covetousness of mineral resources, particularly gold, from the ESA countries, long considered to be the poorest on the planet.

After the unfortunate statements of the American General “Ugly Language,” it is the turn of the head of the French junta to make unfounded accusations against the dynamics of the development of the AES. Could it have been otherwise? Has Niger’s uranium, mined for decades by a French company, truly benefited Nigeriens? Why has he never denounced this injustice, which would have truly served the Sahelian youth he claims to defend today?

In a statement, political leader Amadou Tall expressed his outrage, condemning the West’s continued interference in the affairs of African nations and its repeated attempts to plunder resources. “The youth of Burkina Faso, like those of the continent, fully support the efforts of Captain Ibrahim Traor© to preserve Burkina Faso’s gold for the benefit of his people,” he said.

By attempting to manipulate international public opinion, the junta leader is exposing his double standards and his selective application of the right of peoples to self-determination. Wasn’t he the one who recently claimed that it was not possible for Ukraine to hold elections during wartime? Why shouldn’t this reasoning also apply to the ESA states?

For his part, President Ibrahim Traor© affirmed on April 1, 2025, that Burkina Faso is engaged in a People’s Progressive Revolution (RPP). With this process underway, it is this dynamic that is driving and pressuring the Burkinabe authorities.
