Bamako: The ministers responsible for higher education of the member countries of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) presented an overview of the major issues in the sector to the current President of the Confederation, the Malian Head of State, General of the Armed Forces Assimi Gota, at the Koulouba Palace.
According to Burkina Information Agency, at the end of the hearing, Professor Sadou Mamadou, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Technological Innovation of the Republic of Niger, emphasized that the Bamako meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of the major issues facing the sector. “Our aim was to assess common challenges in higher education and research, explore prospects for development and lay the foundations for an effective framework for consultation between our Member States,” he said.
This meeting is part of the ministerial work held in Bamako on the challenges and prospects of higher education and scientific research in the confederal space. Speaking on behalf of his peers, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Higher Education, Mr. Adjima Thiombiano, expressed his gratitude to the President of the Transition for the attention paid to this strategic initiative.
He recalled that the central theme of the Bamako conference is “The contribution of higher education and scientific research to the strategic development of the Confederation of Sahel States.” “We are currently working on implementing joint projects aimed at harmonizing academic practices and creating centers of excellence at the confederal level,” he said, emphasizing the shared desire to make higher education a lever for the integrated development of the AES.
