Zondoma: The Association of United Women of the Province of Zondoma (AFUPZ) held an advocacy workshop on October 12, 2024, urging the Special Delegation of the commune of Gourcy to enhance efforts in promoting social cohesion among the community members.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop, conducted at the Gourcy town hall, was a follow-up to a community dialogue initiated by AFUPZ on September 18, 2024. During the initial meeting, participants highlighted the necessity of increasing awareness about social cohesion and cooperative living. The October workshop, attended by local leaders including the First Vice-President of the Special Delegation, Saïdou Mandé, and the Acting Secretary General of the town hall, Alassane Sawadogo, sought to implement these community-driven recommendations.
AFUPZ President Adidjieta Sidibé emphasized the importance of continuous engagement and communication in fostering peace and harmony. “We hope that the municipality will, for example, establish periodic r
adio broadcasts on topics related to conflict prevention and management in order to constantly remind communities of the need to dialogue in order to live together in peace and harmony,” Sidibé stated.
In response, Saïdou Mandé commended the association for its proactive approach and assured that the recommendations would be conveyed to the relevant authorities for further action. The initiative is part of a larger effort titled “Strengthening the empowerment and resilience of women in the Northern region,” which is conducted in partnership with the West African Network for Peace and Social Cohesion (WANEP-Burkina).
