Boulgou: An orientation and advocacy meeting was organized by the Bittou health district to discuss the implementation of the mass treatment campaign against schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, for the year 2025. The meeting took place at the Bittou town hall on Friday, May 2, 2025, and included various representatives from the community.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting was chaired by Mohamed Lamine Diabaté, the prefect of the commune of Bittou and president of the special delegation (PDS) of Bittou. The event was attended by the PDS of the commune of Bané, district heads from Bittou and Bané, representatives of customary and religious leaders, service directors, law enforcement and security forces, civil society members, and health workers.
The chief physician of the Bittou health district, Bourama Ouattara, emphasized the seriousness of schistosomiasis and called for the leaders’ involvement in mobilizing communities. The goal is to reach the 47,961 children in the Bittou health
district who are eligible for the mass treatment campaign.
The campaign will be combined with deworming using albendazole and will specifically target children aged 5 to 14. It is set to commence on May 5, 2025.
The heads of the special delegations of Bittou and Bané expressed their gratitude to all participants and encouraged them to spread information to ensure the campaign’s success. The district’s chief doctor also conveyed satisfaction with the authorities and participants for their active participation.
