Baringo County’s Notorious Bandit Apprehended, Weapons Recovered

Baringo, Kenya – The security multi-agency team in Baringo County has successfully apprehended Lonyapat Perinyang, a 20-year-old wanted bandit, and recovered two AK-47 rifles along with ammunition. This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in addressing raids and killings that have plagued Baringo, Samburu, and Turkana counties.

According to Kenya News Agency, Perinyang, who has evaded capture for four years, was arrested at Kapendo Centre following intensive intelligence surveillance. Kutwa, accompanied by County Police Commander Julius Kiragu, revealed that Perinyang guided the officers to the location of the hidden weapons.

The commissioner indicated that the suspect has provided critical information about the armed gang’s operations, and they expect to make more arrests and recoveries. Perinyang is described as the coordinator of youth involved in raids and counter-raids in Turkana, Samburu, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Laikipia counties, responsible for numerous killings.

Kiragu noted that over the past three weeks, three bandits have been arrested, and three guns recovered. He also mentioned a recent arrest in the Arabal area of Baringo South, where another loaded gun was seized.

The county police boss praised the public’s cooperation in sharing information leading to these arrests. He urged continued collaboration to eradicate criminal elements that have long terrorized residents in the North Rift region.

The suspect, to be arraigned in Kabarnet court, was reportedly arrested while socializing with friends at Kipedo Trading Centre. Perinyang claimed to have abandoned banditry activities and shifted focus to other livelihoods.
