Addis Ababa: The Addis International Convention Center (AICC) is set to unlock significant trade and tourism opportunities for Ethiopia and the entire African continent, Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor Adanech Abebie said.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the Addis Ababa International Convention Center was officially inaugurated last night in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Adanech Abebie of the Addis Ababa City Administration stated that Addis Ababa has embarked on implementing projects that could raise its status as a diplomatic hub.

She highlighted the projects such as the Adwa Victory Memorial, Lenegewa’ Women’s Rehabilitation and Skill Development Center, and the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak School for the Blind, all of which have been achieved over the last year. The Mayor emphasized that the Addis Convention Center will elevate the competitiveness of the city and Africa to a higher level.

Apart from Ethiopia, the convention will
unlock numerous opportunities for Africa to forge regional trade integration, attract tourists, and foster image building, she added. She also said the convention center is convenient for business meetings and dealings, staging various exhibitions and cultural events.

The mayor also noted that development enterprises at the federal and city levels should elevate the sector into a higher level by utilizing the opportunities created through raising the number of shares they have at the convention center. The convention center is situated on 40 hectares of land and features two large halls, each with a capacity to accommodate 3,000 to 4,000 people.

The center also includes eight small and medium meeting halls, accommodating a total of up to 10,000 people, and offers two hotels with a combined capacity of 1,000 beds.
