Addis Ababa Set to Host Key Conference on Digital Sustainability in Africa


Addis Ababa — A significant conference dedicated to fostering an environmentally sustainable and inclusive digital future in Africa is scheduled for September 4th in Addis Ababa. This event, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), will take place in a hybrid format, accessible both online and at the UN Conference Centre in Addis Ababa.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the conference will convene various stakeholders to deliberate on the findings of UNCTAD’s Digital Economy Report 2024, which underscores the critical need for sustainable digitalization strategies. The report calls for substantial systemic shifts in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector to safeguard the environment and promote the well-being of all individuals.



Discussions at the event will focus on understanding the intricate relationship between digitalization and environmental sustainability, highlighting the growing importance of these issues as digital technology continues to evolve rapidly. Participants, including Ethiopian government officials, diplomats, UN officials, and experts, will seek to outline actionable policy recommendations.
