Addis Ababa Set to Host Inaugural Africa Urban Forum in September

ADDIS ABABA – Final preparations have been completed for the first Africa Urban Forum, set to take place in Ethiopia’s capital from September 4-6, at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, under the theme ‘Sustainable Urbanization for Africa’s Transformation: Agenda 2063’.



According to the Ethiopian News Agency, the upcoming forum aims to address critical aspects of sustainable urban development within the context of Africa’s Agenda 2063. State Minister Fanta Dejen confirmed to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) that all logistical and thematic preparations have been finalized, with numerous national and international officials expected to attend. The event marks a significant milestone in fostering African unity and the development of modern urban centers across the continent.



A national and technical committee, led by Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, has been instrumental in ensuring the forum’s preparations are comprehensive. The state minister also noted that the forum will feature participation from cities outside Africa, highlighting its global relevance. Discussions during the forum will focus on development goals aligned with Africa’s long-term visions, urban development challenges, and green initiatives. Additionally, an exhibition will showcase the achievements and experiences of various cities, alongside opportunities for leaders and ministers to engage in sideline discussions.
