Addis Ababa: Russia Continues Supporting Goals of African Union, Ambassador Terekhin Says

ADDIS ABABA – Russia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Evgeny Terekhin, reaffirmed his country’s steadfast support for the goals and aspirations of the African continent.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the statement was made during the 61st anniversary of Africa Day, commemorating the foundation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union (AU), at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

Terekhin highlighted Russia’s longstanding partnership with Africa, stating, “The Russian Federation shares and supports the goals of the member states of the African Union, enshrined in its ambitious socio-economic development program ‘Agenda-2063’.” He emphasized Russia’s active participation in providing comprehensive support to the continent both bilaterally and within international mechanisms, and expressed Russia’s readiness to strengthen the sovereignty and sovereign equality of African states.

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia has consistently advocated for expanding Africa’s representation, which Terekhin believes would correct historical injustices and adapt the UN to modern realities. He underscored Russia’s commitment to its partnership with the African Union and supporting Africa’s efforts toward development and prosperity.
