ADDIS ABABA: The Ministry of Revenues announced it has collected more than 425 billion Birr in taxes from domestic sources and foreign trade over the past ten months of the current Ethiopian fiscal year. In a media briefing today, Minister of Revenues Aynalem Niguse stated that the ministry collected 425 billion Birr out of a planned 442.85 billion Birr for the period.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the revenue collected shows an increase of 4.91 billion Birr compared to the same period last year. The ministry’s target for the fiscal year is 529 billion Birr, and it is performing as planned. Strategies to achieve this target include raising awareness to encourage tax compliance, increasing digital services, and ensuring fair tax and customs administration. The minister noted that 51 billion Birr was collected in April alone, the highest monthly revenue this year. Out of the total revenue collected over ten months, 271.36 billion Birr came from domestic sources, while 153.91 billion Birr was from foreign trade.
