Addis Ababa Mayor Receives Prestigious Leadership AwardPrime Minister Abiy Engages with Ethiopian Evangelical Council for Constructive Dialogue

ADDIS ABABA – In a notable recognition of leadership excellence, the African Leadership Magazine has awarded the Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, the 12th African Leadership Magazine Female Leader of the Year Award, celebrating her significant contributions to the city and the nation.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the ceremony, which took place last night, acknowledged Mayor Adanech’s historic tenure as the first woman to hold the mayoral office in Addis Ababa since 1910. The award celebrates her achievements in enhancing transparency, combating corruption, and initiating critical reforms within Ethiopia. These accomplishments underscore her role in promoting good governance and resilient leadership, significantly impacting both the city’s development and Ethiopia’s broader societal progress.

During the award reception, which featured the former President of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, Mayor Adanech emphasized the importance of collaboration among African leaders to secure a prosperous future for the continent. The Minister of Revenues, Aynalem Nigussie, also spoke at the event, highlighting the inspirational value of recognizing outstanding achievements for aspiring leaders.

Ken Giami, Chairman of the African Leadership Organization and Publisher of African Leadership Magazine, reflected on the importance of acknowledging distinguished figures in Africa. He pointed out that such recognitions serve as a crucial platform for celebrating the architects of the continent’s advancement and foster a spirit of excellence and visionary leadership.

The 12th African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards 2023 also honored other distinguished leaders, including former President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete and Chief Justice of Kenya Martha Koome, among others. The ceremony, themed “Building Resilient African Economies,” aimed to highlight individuals driving progress and advocating for pan-African agendas across various fields.

The event, a flagship annual gathering of the African Leadership Magazine, has become a prestigious occasion, convening a wide array of stakeholders from Africa and beyond to deliberate on critical issues pertaining to the continent’s socio-economic development and to honor leaders committed to impactful, people-centered governance.

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed recently held a productive meeting with members of the Ethiopian Evangelical Council, which included regional representatives from its member churches. This session forms part of a series of engagements the Prime Minister has been conducting with various community and religious leaders across the nation.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, these discussions are part of ongoing efforts to address pertinent issues and enhance collaboration with the religious community. Prime Minister Abiy emphasized the significance of these dialogues in understanding and addressing the concerns of the Evangelical community in Ethiopia.
