Addis Ababa Mayor Receives Prestigious African Leadership Award


Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Adanech Abiebie, Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration, has been honored with the 12th African Leadership Magazine Person of the Year award. The accolade was bestowed upon her in recognition of her pioneering role as the city’s first female mayor, her efforts to combat corruption, implement significant institutional reforms, promote good governance, and execute beneficial projects for city residents. The ceremony, themed “Building Resilient African Economies,” highlighted the importance of leadership in shaping the continent’s future.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the award ceremony took place with the objective of acknowledging the contributions of individuals who have played a pivotal role in advancing progress across Africa. During her acceptance speech, Mayor Adanech emphasized the need for African leaders to collaborate for the betterment of future generations. Minister of Revenues Aynalem Nigussie and Ken Giami, Chairman of the African Leadership Organization and Publisher of African Leadership Magazine, echoed the sentiment, stressing the importance of recognizing successful leaders as a means of inspiring the next generation and acknowledging their role in the continent’s development.
