Ouagadougou: The fifth installment of the tribute to Thomas Sankara and his 12 companions witnessed the participation of 600 primary school students and 400 secondary school students, accompanied by their teachers. During the ceremony, 2,500,000 CFA francs were presented to the memorial management committee for the "My Brick for Sankara" initiative, representing the collective contribution from the staff of the Ministry of Basic Education and the Ministry of Secondary Education.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was chaired by the Minister of Basic Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages, Jacques Sosth¨ne Dingara, and co-chaired by the Minister of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training, Professor Moumouni Zoungrana. The Minister of Culture, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, welcomed his colleagues and praised the students' presence, viewing it as a significant signal for future generations. He encouraged the students to uphold values such as love of country, integrity, and unwavering commitment to Burkina Faso and Africa.
Minister Ouedraogo urged support for the government, the Head of State, and the People's Progressive Revolution (RPP). Jacques Sosth¨ne Dingara, chairing the tribute, emphasized the importance of the memorial as a symbol of resilience and memory for a people tested by challenges. He highlighted educational reforms aimed at breaking mental enslavement and training responsible citizens.
Professor Moumouni Zoungrana stressed the importance of nurturing the education system to ensure the development of a nation. He encouraged students to draw inspiration from Thomas Sankara's life, aiming to instill his ideals into the younger generation. He declared that despite attempts to erase Sankara's influence, thousands of Sankaras will emerge, reinforcing the commitment to Sankara's principles.
