New York, USA – In a groundbreaking medical achievement, American doctors have successfully performed the world’s first complete eye transplant. The pioneering surgery took place at the University Hospital of New York Langone (NYULH).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the surgical team transplanted a full eye and part of the face to a 46-year-old war veteran from Arkansas. The veteran had previously survived a high-voltage electrical accident, which resulted in the loss of part of his left arm, cheek, chin, nose, lips, forehead, and teeth.

The complex transplant, which involved more than 140 surgeons, nurses, and health professionals, was conducted on May 27 and lasted nearly 21 hours. Post-surgery, the transplanted eye has shown signs of very good health, although it remains uncertain whether the patient will regain his sight. This medical breakthrough marks a significant milestone in transplant surgery and offers new hope for individuals with severe facial and ocular injuries.
