According to Burkina Information Agency, Abdoulaye Pingdéwendé Gorkobane Koama is now a doctor of medicine. He defended his doctoral thesis on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Health Sciences Training and Research Unit (UFR/SDS) of Joseph KI-ZERBO University. His research focused on “ocular morbidity in elite units of the National Police: Case of the Multipurpose Intervention Unit of the National Police (UIP/PN).”
In his presentation, Abdoulaye Koama noted that elite soldiers of the National Police might be exposed to conditions causing vision problems during their basic training and while performing their duties. This observation justified his study on the eye health of members of the special police unit. He suggested extending t
his study to all defence and security forces, highlighting its significance in maintaining efficiency within the force.
The jury deemed the theme relevant, emphasizing the importance of sight in defense and security forces. Professor Papougnézambo Bonkoungou, President of the jury, stated that the study would help ensure that the special unit remains effective, as vision is crucial for elite units. The jury acknowledged the collaboration of senior National Police officials and unit heads in achieving the study’s results.
Despite praising the work, the jury made some observations on the form and substance to be considered in the final document. They awarded the distinction “Very Honorable with Congratulations of the Jury,” and Dr. Koama took the Hippocratic Oath. After the ceremony, Professor Bonkoungou officially declared Abdoulaye Pingdéwendé Gorkobane Koama a doctor of medicine. The research was supervised by Professor Zabsonré/Ahnoux and co-directed by Dr. Paté Sankara.
