Zabr©: An abandoned baby, approximately two weeks old, was discovered at the Medical Centre with Surgical Unit (CMA) in Zabr© during the night of December 28-29, 2024, prompting immediate action by local authorities in the Centre-East region of Burkina Faso. Officials have condemned the act as unjustifiable and are actively seeking information from the public to identify those responsible.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the child was found by authorities who promptly assumed responsibility for the infant’s care and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abandonment. The incident has raised significant concerns and questions within the community.

Alain B. Bassono, the prefect and president of the special delegation (PDS) of Zabr©, assured residents that the child is in good health. “We visited the foster family to inquire about the baby’s condition. He is doing well and is receiving adequate care,” Bassono explained, providing some relief to the community over the child’s welfare.

Despite the positive report on the baby’s health, the local authorities are deeply disturbed by the abandonment. The prefect emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “Such an act is totally unjustifiable. We are deploying all necessary means to find the person responsible for this abandonment, because the ideal place for a child is with his family.”

In response to the incident, local authorities have opened a formal investigation to uncover the motivations and circumstances that led to the baby’s abandonment. They are also actively appealing to the public, seeking any information that could aid in identifying those involved in this distressing act.
