Mexico city: Wales captain Aaron Ramsey has joined Pumas UNAM on a free transfer after parting ways with Cardiff City, the Mexican top-flight club announced on Thursday. The 34-year-old has signed a contract that extends until June next year, following a medical examination at the club’s headquarters in Mexico City.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Ramsey expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating, “I’m at a good point in my career to move forward. I know what the expectations are for this club and I’m here to do my part and help in any way I can.” Ramsey is eager to tackle the challenge of ending Pumas’ 14-year title drought, while also maintaining his performance level ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
The former Arsenal and Juventus player highlighted his vast experience as an advantage in contributing to the team’s goals for the season. “I have had a lot of experience in my career and that obviously puts me in a good position,” Ramsey said. “I want to contribute in my role and achieve the objectives we have set for this season. There are things to be excited about and I am looking forward to this challenge.”
Ramsey also noted his efforts in learning about Liga MX prior to his arrival. “This league is very technical, with great players and I’ve tried to get as much information as I could from certain people and the internet,” he added. Pumas UNAM will kick off their new Liga MX season with a match against Santos Laguna on July 12.
