9th Ioba Communities Day Celebrates Women’s Cycling Race

Ioba / Dano: A women's cycling race took place on the occasion of the 9th edition of the Ioba Communities Day, last Saturday, May 3 in Dano. Sport, a factor in bringing people together and fostering social cohesion, was also a key element of the 9th edition of the Ioba Community Day. For the second consecutive year, a cycling race brought together young girls from the 14 communities living in Ioba. Eighteen of them cycled to consolidate the legendary coexistence with the host community, the Dagara.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner of Ioba Province, Innocents Ouattara, gave the starting signal for this women's cycling race. The riders set off from Dano town hall to the local high school and back on the RN12, covering a total distance of 5.5 km.

At the finish line, Mari©tou Kiemd© beat all her competitors. All the cyclists were rewarded at the closing of the 9th Community Day at the Dano Women's Museum. The High Commissioner congratulated the cyclists for their participation. "This cycling race helps strengthen intercommunity integration," he noted.

The theme of this year's Community Days is "Peace, Security, and Development: What Contribution Can Communities Make?" Several other activities were organized as part of the day.
