Fada n'gourma: The Commander of the 6th Gendarmerie Legion, Lieutenant-Colonel Kiswendsida Wilfried Taoko, presided over his first national flag-raising ceremony of 2026 on January 5 in Fada N'Gourma. The event served as a platform for the Legion to assess its achievements from 2025 and outline its goals for the year ahead, with the participation of the heads of units from the Tenkodogo Departmental Gendarmerie Group.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was attended by commanders from the Departmental Gendarmerie Groups, unit and sub-unit commanders, heads of services, non-commissioned officers, and second-class gendarmes of the Legion. Lieutenant-Colonel Taoko emphasized the Legion's unwavering commitment to collaborating with other Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) in combating terrorism.
The Legion Commander highlighted the personnel's achievements in area control missions, patrols, intelligence gathering, criminal investigations, and providing provost services. In 2025, the 6th Legion conducted 2,711 patrols, checked 2,816 individuals, identified 1,520 vehicles, made 266 arrests, issued 20,618 fixed-penalty fines amounting to 94,213,200 CFA francs, and recorded 246 traffic accidents.
On the sporting front, Lieutenant Colonel Taoko praised the Legion's performance, including a second-place finish in inter-unit military competitions and a championship title in the Maracana Top Vacances. The Legion also secured first place for women in the Taanjiama Marathon's resilience course and a regional prize in a 21.5 km race.
Looking forward to 2026, Lieutenant-Colonel Taoko announced the continuation of the division of responsibilities between the Gendarmerie and the National Police, with the Gendarmerie assuming control of new localities. He urged personnel to familiarize themselves with products from the security forces' commissary, opening on January 6, 2026, at the Fada N'Gourma garrison.
He stressed the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, enhancing collaboration with other security forces and the VDP, and maintaining discipline. Lieutenant Colonel Taoko extended his best wishes to the personnel and their families, emphasizing discipline, cohesion, and collective success for the new year.
The 6th Gendarmerie Legion operates across the administrative regions of Goulmou, Nakambe, Sirba, and Tapoa.
