500 Boda Boda Riders Receive Licenses after Government-Sponsored Training

Narok: In a bid to reduce road accidents and enhance safety, the Narok County Government has issued driving licenses to 500 boda boda riders after completing a government-sponsored training program. Governor Patrick ole Ntutu announced the development, highlighting the county's investment of Sh. 5.2 million in the past financial year to facilitate this initiative. According to Kenya News Agency, the county allocated Sh. 3.7 million to Moran Driving School for training the riders, and an additional Sh. 1.5 million was paid to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for processing the driving licenses. Governor Ntutu emphasized the importance of training, stating that it has already contributed to a decrease in accidents involving boda boda operators in the region. He also revealed plans to sponsor another group of 500 riders for similar training in the current financial year. Governor Ntutu urged the newly licensed operators to adhere to traffic regulations, emphasizing the importance of wearing h elmets to ensure their safety and that of their passengers. Alongside the training initiative, Ntutu announced a Sh. 1.5 million bursary for the neediest riders to assist them in educating their children, prioritizing those caring for vulnerable and orphaned children. The governor also promised the construction of additional boda boda sheds in major towns to provide shelter for riders during adverse weather conditions. Narok County Commissioner Kipkoech Lotiatia, present at the event, commended the boda boda sector for maintaining peace and distancing itself from criminal activities. He encouraged open communication with his office to address any sector-related issues. Narok Boda Boda chairman Gideon Punyua reaffirmed the sector's cooperation with security forces to identify and report criminals attempting to infiltrate their ranks. The event, held at William Ole Ntimama Stadium, was attended by several county officials, including Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare and County Executive Member in charg e of roads, John Gatua.
