50 New Houses Handed Over by MURD Minister at Omuthiya

Omuthiya – Erastus Uutoni, the Minister of Urban and Rural Development (MURD), officially handed over 50 houses in Omuthiya, Oshikoto region, constructed by the National Housing Enterprise (NHE). The housing project, which started in July 2022 and completed in October 2023, provided employment opportunities for 48 contractors.

According to Namibian Press Agency (NAMPA), the government’s efforts in developing the country, such as this housing project, should be acknowledged and appreciated. During the handover ceremony, he expressed satisfaction with the local authority’s role in ensuring land availability and the support from financial institutions. The minister also encouraged civil servants to utilize the recently added 20 percent housing and transport allowance in their salaries to purchase homes.

Uutoni emphasized the collaborative vision of both local authorities and NHE in serving the public and developing the country. He called on local authorities to assist people in making their lives easier and contributing to national development.

NHE board chairperson, Toska Sem, mentioned that the 50 houses are part of NHE’s commitment to providing quality and affordable housing for Namibian inhabitants. She urged local authorities across the country to support NHE by allocating affordable land for further housing projects.

Representing the beneficiaries, Maria Hannes expressed her gratitude for finally owning a home after years of renting. She thanked the NHE salesperson for helping her fulfill her long-standing dream of homeownership.
