Ziro: 35 students from the commune of Sapouy benefited from training on gender-based violence. Held from May 19 to 20, 2025, in Sapouy, this training was organized by the Child Protection Network and the Ziro Provincial Directorate of Humanitarian Action in partnership with Plan International Burkina.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the aim of this session was to provide children and young people with information on their rights, means of protection, and reporting mechanisms in an increasingly worrying security and humanitarian context. During this training session, particular attention was paid to the participation of girls, the main targets of these harmful practices.

“I didn’t know that the marriage of a 14-year-old girl could be considered violence. Today, I feel more informed and stronger to say no,” said Abz©tou, a second-year A student. The Provincial Director of Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity of Ziro, Jean S©verin Bakala, expressed the hope that this type of initiative would be multiplied for the benefit of children so that they would be protected and informed of their rights.

Participants were also made aware of the importance of becoming agents of change, capable of positively influencing their communities on the issue of respect for children’s rights and gender equality. At the end of the training, the students made a commitment to defend and denounce any case of violation of their rights. Among the 35 children trained, 9 were sponsored by Plan International Burkina.
