WINDHOEK: Over 120 athletes have gathered in Windhoek for the 31st edition of the Quinton-Steele Botes (QSB) athletics and training camp, which began on Wednesday. The camp, named after the late Namibian athletics administrator Quinton-Steele Botes, will run for four days at the Independence Stadium, focusing on various athletics events including sprints, hurdles, throws, and jumps.
According to The Namibia Press Agency, athletes of all ages will receive comprehensive training in both field and track events, along with psychological and motivational sessions. The training will be conducted by prominent coaches such as Henk Botha, who coached Namibian Olympic silver medallist Christine Mboma, and other experts like South African high jump coach Jonathan Greyvenstein and long jump coach Charlie Strohmenger. The camp will also feature insights from Dutch long-distance coach Grete Koens and top middle long-distance runners from the Netherlands. Namibian athletes and coaches, including discus thrower Ryan Williams, are set to share their expertise. Event Organizer Leoni van Rensburg expressed gratitude to sponsors and highlighted the camp’s goal of discovering new talent and impacting athletes’ lives and careers. Joan Smit, Secretary-General of the Namibia National Olympic Committee, encouraged athletes to seize this opportunity for enhancing Namibia’s international representation, mentioning
potential funding through the Olympic Solidarity program for athletes preparing for the Olympic Games.
