Ouagadougou: The merits of the best Burkinabe athletes will be celebrated on October 22 in Ouagadougou during a gala evening, called Night of Champions, announced Wednesday the office of the Association of Sports Journalists of Burkina (AJSB), during a press conference held in the Burkinabe capital.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the President of the Organizing Committee (PCO), Modeste Ouedraogo, emphasized the significance of this anniversary edition. The ceremony aims to be memorable, inclusive, and modern, introducing several innovations. It is designed to offer a unique experience to guests and viewers, while promoting the values of peace, resilience, and national pride through sport.
The Night of Champions is not just an awards ceremony, but also a space for national recognition, bridging generations, and paying tribute to those who view sport as an instrument of cohesion and unity. Around twenty athletes who have distinguished themselves over the past season will be honored by sports journalists.
Modeste Ouedraogo highlighted the symbolic nature of the 30th edition, marking thirty years of existence and dedication to honoring women and men whose talent and determination elevate the national flag on fields worldwide. The event celebrates work, self-improvement, solidarity, and sporting excellence, values that are integral to the association’s mission.
The 2025 edition will occur at 9 p.m. in the Banquet Hall of Ouaga 2000, under the high patronage of the President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), Dr. Ousmane Bougouma. It will also be chaired by the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, and the Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment. The event is further supported by the Director General of Customs, Dr. Yves Kafando, Mrs. Adja Amsetou Nikiema, known as Adja de Komsilga, and Sayouba Zongo, former cyclist and trainer of the Etalons.
