New RTB2/North Director Aims to Uncover Regional Potential

OUAGADOUGOU — The newly appointed regional director of RTB2/North, Xavier Belemgnégré, has committed to exploring and enhancing the local potential in various sectors. Taking office on March 28, 2024, Belemgnégré has outlined a comprehensive plan to engage and develop the region’s resources.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Belemgnégré was officially inaugurated by RTB’s Secretary General, Grace Isabellita Foro, at the RTB2/Nord headquarters. In his inaugural address, Belemgnégré emphasized the significance of community involvement and the overarching goal of fostering peace and stability in the Northern region. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with local partners and the community to achieve these objectives, noting the need for shared commitment to overcome challenges and capitalize on the region’s potential.

Belemgnégré’s strategy includes promoting local culture and advancing endogenous development by engaging with various localities to identify and leverage their unique strengths. His vision for RTB2/North includes a robust outreach program to ensure comprehensive regional coverage and the integration of cultural values in the station’s programming.

Reflecting on the accomplishments of his predecessor, Joseph Bambara, Belemgnégré recognized the significant advancements made under Bambara’s leadership, particularly the revival of radio broadcasting in the region. Bambara’s tenure saw the expansion of RTB/Nord’s radio coverage, reaching beyond the Northern region’s four provinces since 2018.

In his concluding remarks, Belemgnégré called for continued support and collaboration from his colleagues and the community, aiming to sustain and build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor for the benefit of the Northern region.

OUAHIGOUYA — In a significant spiritual gathering, Cheikh Ibrahim Inyass, a distinguished religious leader from Kaolack, Senegal, led an evening dedicated to prayers for peace in Burkina Faso. The event took place on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the large mosque in sector No. 7 of Ouahigouya, drawing attention to the city’s call for tranquility amid unrest.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony commenced at 7 p.m. with residents from various parts of Ouahigouya converging on the mosque. Despite the scheduled start, the program began in earnest around 9 p.m. when Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass, along with local imams, made their entrance, signifying the start of a solemn prayer session. The event highlighted more than thirty minutes of ‘tarawih’, a significant evening prayer, focusing on invocations and blessings intended to foster peace in Burkina Faso.

The gathering underscored a message of solidarity from the people of Kaolack towards the residents of Ouahigouya and Burkina Faso at large. Sheikh Inyass expressed his awareness of the challenges faced by the people of Burkina Faso, offering reassurances and spiritual support. He extended prayers for the protection and success of Burkina Faso’s transitional authorities and security forces, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience in overcoming adversity.

Attendees, including Adja Zoénabou Ouédraogo, expressed gratitude towards Sheikh Inyass for his visit and the spiritual support extended by the Senegalese community. The event concluded with a call for collective support for Burkina Faso’s authorities and defense forces, reinforcing a sense of hope and determination among participants.

According to Burkina Information Agency, General Simporé, along with the Minister Delegate for Security, commended the forces for their recent successes in regaining control of territories. During his visit, General Simporé also participated in a humanitarian initiative, delivering supplies to the widows of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) who have sacrificed their lives. OUAGADOUGOU — A stolen motorcycle reported missing in Ouagadougou on December 30, 2023, was recovered in Bolgatanga, Ghana, and returned to its rightful owner, reported on March 31, 2024. The “Sirius” brand scooter, taken from its owner’s residence, was found in a Ghanaian garage as criminals attempted to alter its identifying features.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the successful recovery was made possible through effective collaboration between the Burkinabè gendarmerie and the Ghanaian border police. The operation not only resulted in the retrieval of the stolen property but also highlighted the robust cooperation between the neighboring nations’ security forces. The motorcycle’s owner expressed deep gratitude for the diligent efforts of the authorities involved, emphasizing the unexpected joy and relief at the recovery of their stolen asset and the professionalism of both the Burkinabè and Ghanaian security personnel.

Pouni Mask Festival Launches in Sanguié with High-Level Support


SANGUIÉ – The Pouni Mask Festival, an annual cultural event that draws participants and audiences from across Burkina Faso and beyond, officially commenced its 17th edition in Sanguié, in the Center-West region of Burkina Faso. The festival, known as FESTIMAQ, began on March 30, 2024, emphasizing the role of traditional masks in promoting peace and social cohesion within the nation.



According to Burkina Information Agency, this year’s festival theme, “Mask, peace, and social cohesion in Burkina Faso,” resonates deeply with the current socio-political landscape of the country. The Minister of State, Minister of Civil Service, Labor and Social Protection, Bassolma Bazié, attended the event, endorsing it as a platform for unity and cultural celebration amidst Burkina Faso’s ongoing security concerns.



The festival’s opening ceremony featured a variety of speeches and artistic performances, including a significant mask procession. Key government officials, including the Minister of State, Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, and the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Me Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, participated in the event, highlighting the government’s support for cultural initiatives.



Minister Bazié’s address underscored the festival’s importance as a symbol of resilience and solidarity, encouraging the community to leverage cultural heritage as a strength against adversities, including terrorism. The AMA president, Hervé Gué, outlined the festival’s diverse activities structured around four main pillars: performance of masks, sports activities, promotion of traditional products, and community health and social initiatives.



FESTIMAQ 2024 also aims to extend its reach, inviting mask societies from other regions and countries, thus fostering a broader cultural exchange. The event not only celebrates the artistic and cultural heritage of Burkina Faso but also contributes to the national strategy for cultural and tourist development initiated since the festival’s inception in 1990.
