Scientific and Industrial Research showcases products developed by young researchers, 28 Jun
Young researchers from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), who are spearheading indigenous knowledge systems research, will showcase some of the products developed from traditional plants and roots, during a media briefing to be held on Monday, 28 June 2021.
The briefing, which forms part of Youth Month, will put a spotlight on the CSIR’s young researchers who are developing products to produce food solutions that have the potential to contribute to local economic development, using indigenous plants.
Some of the products include high-value cosmetics, traditional medicine and food based on indigenous plants. These have been produced at commercial scale and are suitable for consumer use. South Africa, like many other countries, is rich in indigenous plants and, if harvested to their full potential, they will bolster economic development and create jobs.
