Suspect nabbed for Contravention of Tobacco Products Control Act and Contravention of Customs and Excise Act

40-year-old suspect, Maratab Ali, appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 22 June 2023 for Contravention of the provisions of the Tobacco Products Control Act 83 of 1993 and Contravention of Customs and Excise Act 91 of 1964. This follows his arrest on Wednesday, 21 June 2023 by Nelspruit Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit at NADMAD Tradings during search and seizure operation in conjunction with SARS Customs and Excise officials.

During the operation the suspect was found in possession of forty seven cartons of Remington Gold Blue illicit cigarettes with an estimated value of R11339, 28. Ali was released on R2000-00 bail and expected to appear again in court on the 27 July 2023.
