Kuils©: The Governor of the Centre-North region officially inaugurated the 7th edition of National Tree Day in the Kuils© region, specifically in the commune of Korsimoro. On this significant occasion, 2,000 seedlings of local species were planted within a protected area to mark the event.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the 7th edition of National Tree Day (JNA) 2025 was initially launched at the national level on June 21 in the Nazinon region. The official launch in the Kuils© region took place on July 3, 2025, in the village of Soundogo, under the leadership of Colonel-Major Z. Blaise Ou©draogo. The governor, along with Abdoul Fatao Soulga, a newly certified teacher from the local school, participated in planting the first seedling. This gesture was intended to inspire education stakeholders to plant trees as a celebration of their children’s academic successes. The event saw the participation of administrative, customary, military, and paramilitary authorities, along with the local population, who collectively planted a total of 2,000 seedlings over a 2-hectare area safeguarded by a fence. Plans are in place to install a positive borehole at the site to ensure the seedlings’ maintenance.

The theme for this year’s event, “Medicinal Plants: A Source of Community Health and Climate Resilience,” was highlighted by the governor in his opening speech. He commended the community’s unity and resilience, urging them to support the creation of provincial groves, a new initiative for this edition. The JNA 2025 introduced several significant innovations, including “One province, one medicinal grove,” “One school, one botanical garden,” “One green space, one landscaping project,” “One municipality, two kilometers of alignment planting,” and “Patriotic time to regreen Faso.”

The village chief, landowner, and the prefect, who is also the president of the special communal delegation of Korsimoro, expressed their support for the reforestation initiative and assured their commitment to the seedlings’ survival.

According to the regional director of water and forestry, the Centre-North region aims to plant over 300,000 seedlings during this campaign, contributing to a national target of 20 million seedlings.
