KATIMA MULILO: In a heart-wrenching incident in Katima Mulilo, a 16-year-old boy, identified as Makili Hendrik Shombe, tragically ended his life by hanging himself at his residence in the Mafuta Mafuta compound of the Zambezi Region. This incident occurred on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), the spokesperson for the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Zambezi Region, the young boy allegedly used a rope to hang himself inside the house. This distressing event was confirmed by NamPol on Wednesday. The police found no suicide note at the scene and currently do not suspect any foul play in Shombe’s death.
Highlighting a concerning trend, Inspector Sitali remarked, “Cases of suicide are on the rise among young men at Katima Mulilo.” This statement comes in the wake of another similar tragedy. Sitali disclosed that just a week prior, a 19-year-old Zambian man also reportedly died by suicide in Katima Mulilo, using a wire for the act.
The bodies of both the deceased have been transferred to a hospital for autopsy purposes. The Namibian Police are continuing their investigations into both matters, seeking to understand the circumstances leading to these tragic events.
