Tenkodogo: The Central-East Regional Police Directorate conducted a road user control operation this Monday as part of the fight against road incivility in Tenkodogo. This operation, which lasted approximately two hours, resulted in the arrest of 154 people guilty of offenses related to non-compliance with traffic lights or other road signs. The offenders were subjected to community service, aimed at cleaning up the city while helping to discipline road users.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Central Commissioner Mohamed Sawadogo stated that the operation primarily involved young people, women, and adults, who were arrested for failing to comply with traffic lights, stop signs, and roundabouts. He explained that this indicates a general lack of respect for the highway code among many road users. He added that, as part of the fight against incivility on the roads, the hierarchy instructed them to conduct these operations to encourage users to adopt responsible behavior.

Commissioner Sawadogo emphasiz
ed that the morning’s operation, although brief, allowed the authorities to apprehend 154 people who will now engage in community service tasks, such as cleaning gutters or public spaces. He urged the population of Tenkodogo to respect traffic lights, road signs, and the highway code to reduce the number of accidents in the city of Zoungrantenga.

Among those arrested was Dolebezanga Ibrahim, who, after being subjected to community service, admitted his offense. He acknowledged running the traffic lights and recognized the benefit of the measure, stating that it would help change behavior and reduce accidents.
